Im Sommer 1950 überfällt der kommunistische Norden den Süden von Korea und überrollt binnen weniger Tage das gesamte Land bis auf einen schmalen Streifen an der Küste, wo nun die zahlenmäßig unterlegenen Südkoreaner erbitterten Widerstand leisten und auf amerikanischen Entsatz warten. Um den Hauptangriff zu stoppen, werden alle Truppenteile an einer bestimmten Front geballt, während anderswo Stellungen in der Obhut von leicht bewaffneten studentischen Freiwilligen verbleiben. Und genau dort schlägt der hochgerüstete Feind unerwartet zu.
